The 7th edition of Sargaalaya International Arts and Crafts Festival was inaugurated by honorable minister for Co-operation, Tourism and Devaswoms, Shri. Kadakampally Surendran at Sargaalaya on 21st December 2017. The function was presided over by Shri. T.P. Ramakrishnan, Minister for Labour and Excise, Government of Kerala. The 19 day long festival will be on till 8th January 2018. The international crafts fiesta has participants from South Africa, Uganda, Nepal and Sri Lanka apart from the 400 selected artisans from Various parts of the country.
The special Kerala Heritage village pavilions are the main attractions of the Festival this time. The pavilions include “Kerala Handicrafts Heritage Village Pavilion” with Aranmula the village of Mirrors, the Thazhava Village of Screw Pine crafts, the Peruvamba village for Kerala’s Traditional Percussion Instruments like Mridangam and Maddalam, the potters village of Nilambur, Vellinezhi village which makes traditional head gear for Kathakali, Cherpp the village of wood Carvings, Kunjimangalam the village of Brass products and the traditional coir village of Kerala. Also, the traditional Kalari village, the traditional handloom village with Balaramapuram Saree, Koothampully Saree, Chennamangalam Dhothi, Palakkad Set- Mund, Kannur Furnishings, Kasargod saree are all part of the festival.
Apart from this, there are also traditional art performances by artisans from various parts of India throughout out the days of the festival.
